Class of 2011
Thursday 30 June marked Graduation Day for many Commercial Law and Business, Corporate and Maritime Law students. After speeches from Anette van Sandwijk (International Relations Manager), Theo Lekatompessy (alumus Business and Trade Law) and the Programme Directors Frank Smeele and Filip de Ly, diplomas were handed out to the graduates.
One student, Zhibo Shi, graduated "cum laude" (with honors, gpa higher than 8.25/10) which is rather exceptional in the Netherlands. All the graduates also received a copy of the Yearbook "Class of 2011", a nice memory of their time in Rotterdam. Afterward a toast to future careers was raised to all the graduates!
Congratulations to the Class of 2011!
Campus Reconstruction
Woudestein campus, home base for roughly 20,000 students. And every year, more students choose for Woudestein and Erasmus University Rotterdam. In order to prepare the university campus for the future, ambitious plans have been developed. In 2013, part of these plans will already have been realized.
In 2013, infrastructure and campus entrances will have been clarified by means of two main road axes. The heart of these axes will be an effervescent meeting point: Erasmus Plaza, with underground car park.
The Plaza will feature student accommodation, as well as a Student Pavilion. Exciting facilities for study, cultural events and recreation will be housed in this Pavilion. Sustainability and greenery will play important roles on the new, nearly car-free campus.
Woudestein campus: ready for a splendid future! For more information please click here.

Alumnus Paul Kalekyezi
As you may recall, I pursued the Business and Trade Law (BTL) Programme during the academic year 2003-2004. I have since learned that this programme has been restructured and made more comprehensive, but I think the original programme just as much provided me with the the necessary tools to handle any business and trade matters. Thanks to the efficient instruction and guidance by the Erasmus professors, I find myself applying what I learned at Erasmus in my current job and I can't help remember the faces like it was yesterday... this is testimony of a lasting impression and it is invaluable.
On graduating from Erasmus School of Law at the end of June 2004, I went back to my country Uganda and continued to work in the government civil service. Later, at the end of 2005, I left government service and joined the Commonwealth, Hub and Spokes Project as a Trade Policy Analyst for Guyana, a developing country on the South American continent. It is this posting that presented me with the opportunity to put into practice what I learned in the lecture rooms of Erasmus... talk of regional integration, bilateral investment agreements, international trade agreements, WTO matters, competition policy and other similar issues I have handled becauseI went through Erasmus.
| Sometimes it gets exciting to find myself dealing with a matter, which I can directly relate to the lecture rooms, as a student. I am sure my colleagues have similar experiences. Since I graduated from Erasmus I have met some course participants and kept in touch with many others and it has remained that international community we were in Rotterdam, but living apart. Erasmus enabled me to be part of a network of professionals from Mexico, Brazil, Jamaica, Barbados, Canada, Belgium, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia, Turkey, Romania, Germany, Russia, China and Indonesia, among other countries. We continue to interact and discuss both social and professional matters because of the bond that was created in Rotterdam. |
