Requirements

Minimum requirements for admission to our LL.M. Programmes:

Law degree

We require a law degree from a recognised university for all programmes except for the European Master in Law and Economics*.

In addition:

  • Arbitration and Business Law: students must have a law degree that gives access to the judicial profession.
  • International and European Public Law: students must have completed (Bachelor) courses in European Law (note: students who do not possess knowledge in this field will be assigned specific literature to be read prior to the start of the programme) and Public International Law.
  • European Master in Law and Economics:* law or economics degree or any education in social sciences, having emphasis on law and/or economics included. Please visit the EMLE website for further information.

 

English Language Proficiency

 

  • We require a minimum IELTS score of 6.5*, or TOEFL score of 90 (Internet based)**
  • Students with a first or second degree with the English language as medium of instruction (please submit proof) do not have to submit a TOEFL or IELTS test report.

Supporting documents

 

  • If the applicant's mother tongue is not English, evidence of proficiency in  English (TOEFL/IELTS or degree in English) must be provided
  • Original, certified (translated) copies of degree(s) and transcript(s), including a list of grades and an official description of the grades
  • If the language of this degree (or degrees) is not English or Dutch, certified English translations must be enclosed
  • Curriculum vitae
  • A letter setting out the applicant's reasons for seeking admission to the LL.M. Programme (motivational essay)
  • The names and addresses of two referees of academic standing accompanied by two original letters of recommendation printed on letterhead paper and put in a sealed envelope
  • Proof of sufficient financial support for the duration of the programme (for instance a bank statement)
  • Three passport photographs
  • A copy of the applicant's passport.
  • Chinese students: NUFFIC Certificate. Current information on the NUFFIC certificate.
