Programme
About the programme
The specialisation International and European Public Law focuses on the public law aspects of international and European law and on how these bodies of law impact national legal orders. More in particular, it focuses on the role of international and European law in fostering the protection of human rights, the rule of law and the accountability of international and European institutions.
Students may focus their studies on both areas of law or may choose to specialize in either Access to Justice, European and International Economic Law or Constitutionalisation of Law beyond the state.
EUROPEAN OR INTERNATIONAL LAW
The general track is ideal for students who wish to prepare themselves for a career in the field of European Law (especially for EU students) or International Law (especially for students outside the EU). This specialisation offers students the possibility of creating a tailor-made programme choosing from a selection of electives.
ACCESS TO JUSTICE
This specialisation focuses on the protection of human rights and access to justice in both the context of European law and international law. Students will be able to take courses such as Judicial Protection in the European Union and Human Rights in International Law. This specialisation is particularly attractive for students who are interested in working on the protection of individual rights as a practicing lawyer, in public advocacy on in the public sector, at the national, European or international level.
EUROPEAN AND INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC LAW
This specialisation enables you to focus on the consequences of Europeanization and globalization for the economic order. Courses include EU Internal Market Law, International Economic Law and Economics of Public law. It typically is a specialisation for students who would like to work on European and international economic relations in the public or private sector.
CONSTITUTIONALISATION OF LAW BEYOND THE STATE
The focus of this specialisation lies on the fact that public power is now being exercised by European and international institutions and the questions this gives rise to in terms of the rule of law. It focuses on new developments in European and international law and is closely related to the research interests of Professors Amtenbrink and Hey, programme coordinators. Courses include EU Institutional Law and Constitutional Law, the Rule of Law in International Law and Comparative Constitutional Law. This specialisation offers you a basis for working on cutting-edge developments in European and international law, both in practice and research.
