Grantfinder

Students seeking financial assistance for funding their LL.M. programmes are invited to visit the Grantfinder website. The Netherlands Student Grantfinder is an online search engine for those who want to study in the Netherlands and are looking for financial aid. The Grantfinder contains information on a range of Dutch scholarships for foreign students.

For complete and updated information, please visit the websites of these scholarship programmes. You will need a(n) (provisional) admission letter from Erasmus School of Law to apply for one of the above-mentioned scholarships.

Erasmus Trustfonds Scholarship

The Erasmus Trustfonds was founded to support research and education projects, organised by the Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) specifically. The fund hereby aims to contribute to the growth and flourishing of Erasmus University.

This scholarship is only available for students of the master Commercial Law (and its specialisations) and International and European Union Law. The scholarship (max € 15.000) is open to individuals from developing countries. Both EU as non-EU students are welcome to apply.

Application procedure

The deadline for application is 1 April 2024. Students will be notified of the awards committee's decision at the end of May. Every application can be submitted by

e-mail (informationdesk.llm@law.eur.nl) to the LL.M. Office and need to include the following documents:

  • Motivation letter (including intended career path);
  • CV;
  • Proof of excellence during bachelor of laws (certified copy of bachelor's degree including grade list);
  • In case you have not completed your bachelor yet the average grade of the current year until the date of application applies.
  • Budget plan.

NL Scholarship Erasmus University

This scholarship is only available for students of the master Commercial Law (and its specialisations) and International and European Union Law. Only non-EU students are welcome to apply.

The scholarship is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences. The scholarship is meant for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who want to do their bachelor’s or masters in Holland. For the academic year 2024-2025 one NL Scholarship of € 10,000 is made available.

The deadline for application is 1 April 2024. Students will be notified of the awards committee's decision at the end of May. Every application can be submitted by

La Fondation Albert Lilar scholarship

This scholarship is only available for students of the master Maritime and Transport Law. Only EU students are welcome to apply. For the academic year 2024-2025 one scholarship of € 2,500 is made available. The scholarship is sponsored by Ms Jolien Kruit from the law firm Van Traa. Ms Kruit won the Albert Lilar prize for her dissertation General Average, Legal Basis and Applicable Law and decided to turn her prize into a scholarship for future students.

The Foundation Albert Lilar was founded on 4th February 1977 by the family of the late Albert Lilar, who was a former Belgian President of the Comite Maritime International and a very prominent maritime lawyer in Antwerp. The goal of the foundation is to encourage the study of maritime law both on a national and an international level and every three years the foundation awards a Prize to the author of a scientific work that was recently published and that is considered by the Board of Directors to have great merit and to serve the unification of maritime law or the development of comparative maritime law.
