Erasmus Trustfonds Scholarship

Prospective Master students from EU/EEA countries with highly qualified legal skills are eligible for the Erasmus Trustfonds Scholarship. 

The total scholarship amount is € 13.000 and is divided in 12 monthly stipends of € 1.000. In addition students will receive a personal contribution of €683 and, if applicable, €317 to cover the visa related costs.

The scholarship can be used for the following English taught LL.M. programmes:

  • International Trade Law
  • Commercial and Company Law
  • Maritime and Transport Law
  • International and European Union Law

In order to quality for this waiver students need to prove their excellent academic legal skills by the grades obtained during their Bachelor of Law (so far). Excellence for prospective students is proven if the average grade for the Bachelor courses is at least 7.0/10 (or equivalent). In addition to their excellent academic legal skills prospective students need to write a motivation letter in which they indicate why they would like to study at ESL and in which programme they are interested. The students applying for this waiver need to outline as well what their plans are after completing the LL.M. (intended career path).

Statement of financial need

Prospective students also need to submit a statement of financial need: 

  • Letter of max 1 page
  • Including your background and the reason(s) you need a scholarship e.g. first student in your family to go to university, ethnic minority etc
  • Explain how you are paying your tuition fee now
  • Include examples that illustrate you are capable to manage your finances
  • Including your motivation: how you would benefit from this scholarship


Every application can be submitted by e-mail to the LLM office and need to include the following documents:

  • (provisional) Admission letter
  • Motivation letter (including intended career path)
  • CV
  • Official grade list of your Bachelor of Law. If you have not yet finished your Bachelor of Law please provide a  an official overview of the results achieved so far. 
  • Statement of financial need
  • The application deadline for the Erasmus Trustfonds Scholarship is 1 April 2017.

The applicant will be informed at the latest on 1 July preceding the relevant academic year.
The award of the scholarships will be done by the programme leaders of the LL.M programmes in International and European Union Law, Commercial Law (all specializations)

If the scholarship is awarded to the student, the student must send a written confirmation letter stating that he/she will use this scholarship. This confirmation letter must be signed by the student.

Only complete waiver applications will be reviewed. The application deadline for the Erasmus Trustfonds Scholarship  is 1 April 2017.
